Invest in the Calibre of Calabria

Amantea Calabria

Located at the extreme south of Italy, the region of Calabria has traditionally been a holiday destination for Italians only, but it is now being discovered by overseas property investors.

The west coast of Calabria includes many quaint towns and villages including Amantea, Belmonte Calabro, San Lucido, Paola, and Belvedere Marittimo, with both pebbly and sandy beaches backed by mountains, lakes, and waterfalls.

Its location at the extreme south of the Italian boot ensures a warm temperate climate that stretches for ten months of the year, offering watersports, and most importantly for overseas property investors, almost year-round holiday rental potential.

In the cooler months, nature lovers can enjoy such activities as orienteering, trekking, quad bikes, rafting and even skiing, in the nearby expanse of national parks.

Sightseers can take in the historical delights of the region, including ancient settlements, churches, monasteries, castles, palaces, and traditional towns.

The Calabresi are proud of their local cuisine. Being on the coast, fish are naturally a speciality, but the cuisine also includes a variety of salami, cheeses, porcini mushrooms, often spiced up with the local peperoncino (chilli peppers). Naturally supplemented by a variety of local Italian wines.

Indeed, many food festivals and markets take place throughout the year to showcase the Calabresi cuisine.

Reaching Calabria is now relatively easy. The main airport serving the region is Lamezia Terme, which is serviced year-round by Ryanair from London Stansted. Other regions of the UK can use the many internal flights from major Italian airports such as Milan, Rome, Pisa, and Bologna, all accessible from most majot UK airports.

For the more intrepid travellers, there are excellent rail services to Calabria from all Italian major cities, and the Autostrada A3 stretches the length of Italy for those looking for a particularly scenic drive.

Although traditionally a destination for Italians, Calibria has now been discovered by overseas property investors from Scandinavia, Russia, Ireland, and indeed the UK.

Property prices are still low, with furnished apartments available for as little as €35,000. Whilst a newly built detached 3-bed property with garage and garden could be found for little over €250,000.

For those looking for a renovation project, historical centre renovation property costs from €20,000 upwards, and farmhouses with land to renovate from €60,000.

For those overseas property investors searching for quality Italian charm, as yet unspoilt by commercialism, Calabria could be the choice for you.
